The Municipal Theater was built between 1928 and 1930 thanks to a widespread popular support: the Podestà of Campofilone, surveyor Mattia Ciarrocchi, donated the land for free the “Comitato del Dopolavoro,” while bricklayers and laborers volunteered their time, and many citizens signed 100-lira policies to finance the work.
The building retains fine artistic details, such as the figure of the god Apollo painted on the ceiling by Nicola Achilli and the elegant dolphin-shaped chandeliers crafted by wrought-iron master Aris Ficiarà. After a troubled period — in 1939, when it was occupied by the National Fascist Party and later turned into a shelter for evacuees during the war—the theater suffered significant damage.
A recent restoration has brought the theater back to its former glory, restoring it to its role as the cultural heart of the village. Today, the theater serves as a venue for festivals, performances and concerts, offering citizens and visitors an impressive place where art, history and community come together.
