Campofilone: Rural Roots and Coastal Views

The tour begins at Porta Marina, the ancient entrance to the medieval village featuring a pointed arch and Ghibelline battlements.This gate ushers visitors into the historic heart of Campofilone and recalls the village’s defensive role in centuries past. This makes it the perfect starting point for a day of discovery at a slow pace.

The route continues through the surrounding countryside, dotted with the characteristic Palombare — unique rural towers built for wood pigeon hunting.

The most famous of these is the “Castagna,” recognizable by its distinctive battlements. These towers offer a glimpse into the deep connection between agricultural traditions and the landscape.

Pedaling gently, we reach the Chiesa di Santa Maria di Intignano, a church set in a panoramic position amid pine, forests, and hills.

Founded in the 16th century, it houses masterpieces of sacred art including the 12th-century wooden crucifix and two canvases by Sebastiano Ricci (1755), making it a place of spirituality and contemplation surrounded by nature.

The tour ends by the Adriatic Sea at Campofilone Beach, a natural shoreline alternating between sandy stretches, wild areas, and a bike path. Here, amid the scent of the sea and the open horizon, the experience that blends village, countryside, and coastline comes to an end.

Thanks to its layout, the route is also ideal for e-biking, allowing visitors to experience the area’s variety at a relaxed pace, while enjoying the landscape and scenic stops.
