Inside the majestic Abazia di San Bartolomeo, guarded like a treasure in its most private rooms, is the Hall of Coats of Arms, one of the most evocative and significant rooms of Campofilone’s historical heritage.
This room, entirely frescoed, tells the ancient history of the abbey and the monastic community through colors, symbols and coats of arms. Painted on the walls are the coats of arms of the commendatory abbots who succeeded one another from 1564 onward, along with depictions of glimpses of the village —valuable evidence of what Campofilone looked like in centuries ago.
Thanks to a recently completed careful restoration, the hall has regained its original charm, restoring full legibility to the frescoes and heraldic decorations. Entering the Hall of Coats of Arms is like taking a symbolic journey into the town’s memory, navigating between ecclesiastical power, civic identity and Renaissance art.
